The Enoree Church of God was first organized on March 19, 1939 under the leadership of Rev. J.W. Clevenger with thirteen members. Services were first held in the home of Rev. Clevenger until it was destroyed by fire. Although the fire destroyed the first meeting place, it did not destroy the desire and dedication that those early members had for this ministry. After the fire, the members began meeting for worship in both a brush arbor and a tent until another meeting place could be secured. Shortly thereafter, the first church building, a small frame church that sat on a red clay hill on the outskirts of Enoree, was constructed and it served the congregation for many years.
In 1953 a two-story brick structure, that housed the sanctuary and Sunday school department on Parker Road in Enoree, was constructed. This new building was built under the leadership of Rev. W. Frank Smith and it served the congregants for many decades. This facility was later renovated in 1980 under pastor Rev. C.L. Hall and a porch was added in 1990 during the tenure of Rev. Lacy Jones.
Today we are located on highway 221 just outside of Enoree in our new property that was constructed in the early 2000’s under the leadership of Rev. Jerry Barrineau. This new facility sits on 10 acers and it seats approximately 280. This facility is blessed with a large Sunday School department, a Children’s Ministry wing, and a fellowship hall. While we have moved to our new location, we are blessed to still own the older facility located in the heart of Enoree and it is still used as a ministry center for our Feeding By Faith outreach ministry.
Looking back over the many years of dedication and faithfulness, it is clear that God has greatly blessed the congregants of the Enoree Church of God in many physical and spiritual ways. As we continue to move forward into the future, we trust that God will continue to bless us as we attempt to minister to our local community. We invite you to come and take part in this wonderful and lasting ministry.
